    [Easy Backup and Restore for your apps]

    The Xceed Backup Library is an ActiveX control that allows Windows applications to automatically perform their own backup and restore operations. Xceed Backup can be added to existing projects with practically no coding, providing instant protection against lost or corrupted data files, end-user mistakes and hard drive crashes.

    [How it works]

    This library speaks and thinks in backup terms. By setting the backup library's ActiveX control properties, you tell it which files need to be backed up, where to back them up, and when you want the files backed up. The library does the rest.

    It can backup files to floppy disks, hard drives, network drives, writable CDs and any other random access removable media your users may have, like "ZIP" disks or SuperDisks.

    When you need to restore files, simply tell Xceed Backup which files to restore, and it will take care of finding the backups, requesting the required disks or removable media if necessary, and restoring the files. The library even includes a Restore Wizard, so you don't have to code any interfaces in order to allow your users to restore files.

    Xceed Backup is a multi-threaded, fully self-contained ActiveX control. It's got a built-in scheduler, supports asynchronous (background) operation, and it can backup your application's data transparently without any end-user intervention or screen noise.

    [What languages are supported?]

    The Xceed Backup ActiveX control works with any language that can use ActiveX or COM controls. When used with the latest languages, it supports categorized properties, help strings, property pages, F1 context sensitive help, built in types, enumerations and code completion

    [Why a "backup-specific" library?]

    The Xceed Backup Library was created to provide exactly the features and functionality you'll need to backup and restore files for even the most complex applications. While a full featured compression library such as the Xceed Zip Compression Library will allow you to code your own backup and restore routines for your apps, Xceed Backup allows you to immediately achieve advanced results without having to spend time coding and testing backup-oriented functionality yourself.

    The Xceed Backup Library consists of five controls designed to make adding backup and restore capabilities to applications as easy as possible.

    The controls work together to quickly allow you to efficiently configure, schedule and perform any number of backup and restore operations. The main control, called 'XceedBackup', is the heart of the library. It uses the other controls, as shown below, to configure backup and restore jobs, schedule them, and select files to process. Use only the ones you need, as many as you need. Their relationships are shown in the figure below:

    Each control has its own property page, so you can optionally skip any property setting code. In fact, for scheduled jobs, the only code you need is a call to the StartScheduler() and StopScheduler() methods at the beginning and end of your application's code.
